1932

Humble Beginnings

It all began in the Netherlands when Dirk de Vrij started a small greenhouse operation

1940s

Next Generation Joins

Dirk's son, Arie de Vrij, joined him in the business, learning the trade and building the family tradition. 

1989

A New Beginning in Canada

Arie, his wife Bertha (Bep), and their sons Arnold and Pete made the bold move to Canada. They carried with them a dream and turned it into what we now know as DeVry Greenhouses. 

2023

Remembering Arie

We said farewell to Arie, who passed away at 88. His leadership, vision, and rituals are still felt throughout our greenhouses.

2024

Leading the Way Forward

After many years of working side-by-side, Arnold became the sole owner of DeVry.

Remembering Arie DeVry

  • Known affectionately as "The Colonel", Arie's strong presence and daily routines were part of what defined him. From his 10:00 AM meetings with his Son to his familiar rounds in an old grey Ford pickup, he kept a watchful eye over the operation and the land he loved.

Oma DeVry - Still With Us

  • Bertha (Bep) de Vrij - lovingly known as Oma or Mrs. DeVry is still with us and dearly cared for at home. For many years, she visited the greenhouses daily, bringing cheques to the bank, tidying as she went, and collecting pop cans to buy treats for everyone. Though no longer present day-to-day, her kindness and spirit remain a cherished part of DeVry.
